Long Island music center receives national award at ceremony Friday July 10, 2015.
Guests included Legislator Steve Rhoads, Councilwoman King-Sweeney, John Heaphy, Co-owner of Grace Music School, among many others who spoke about the wonderful impact of NYMC in the Long Island arts community.
Proving that you can be successful balancing both home and business, Dr. Talonda Thomas, an entrepreneur, musician, and owner/founder of the New York Musician’s Center, is excited to announce the selection of the New York Musician’s Center as “2015 National Music School of The Year”, beating out competitors for around the United States and Canada.
In celebration of this honor, the New York Musician’s Center will be hosting a ceremony and reception on July 10th at 1:00pm. Presenting this award will be Marty Fort, the President of Music Academy Success who will travel from South Carolina to bestow this honor to the New York Musician’s Center for exceptional growth and business practices. Faculty, students, Nassau County officials, and members of the Bellmore Chamber of Commerce will be in attendance for the award ceremony and reception. According to Dr. Thomas, “we’re so proud to bring this award home to Bellmore and the Long Island Community. As a thank you to the community, we will be hosting a celebration that is open to the public on Saturday June, 11th where we will provide refreshments and door prizes”.
The New York Musician’s Center has gained great popularity on Long Island for its innovative approach to music lessons, exceptional staff, and performance opportunities for children at world-class venues such as Carnegie Hall, as well as producing some of Long Island’s top talent.
With deep roots of musical performance in her family, Dr. Thomas began studying piano at the age of 10. After spending years developing her passion, Dr. Thomas went on to study at the Crane School of Music. Thomas has first-hand knowledge of how difficult it can be for parents to come by a music program that can accommodate busy schedules while keeping students happy and learning. As a busy mom, she manages a household of two children on her own while teaching music full-time in the local public schools, and directing the music program at the New York Musician’s Center. Her goal was to create an exceptional program that brings the arts to the forefront of education and showcased how talented the students of Nassau County truly are.
With lessons in piano, voice, guitar, drums, and violin, the New York Musician’s Center is preparing to unveil several new programs for the fall. The announcement of a national award is an indication that things are just warming up at the New York Musician’s Center this summer.
